Quality Magazine / 1987

A long forgotten magazine from 1987 that got no further than issue one.  Time sent out mailers dated February 16 for their new title and went ahead with the Premier Issue dated Winter 1987 though I think it was distributed to potential subscribers in the spring of 1987.  Maybe the editorial was too broad in its appeal to capture the imagination of an up-market subscriber base, perhaps the ad rates were too high or it was just the wrong time for this sort of magazine but Quality left behind one of the classiest looking titles I had seen for a long, long time.
The 108 pages were beautifully designed with a simple elegant style.  The magazine was eleven by nine inches and the cover had a slightly thicker stock.  Using Didi for the headlines was the perfect choice as was Futura for the sub-heads.  The photos work because the typography and graphics don’t detract from the overall look of the pages.
Almost the perfectly designed magazine except for the bleed colored semi-circles on the feature pages which seem such an after-thought and are not really needed, least in my opinion.  Such a shame that the title never took off.
